Hi, and welcome to my little Substack corner. I write about photography, art, design, and the craft of living creatively. I am glad you are here. Consider subscribing to keep up with what I am doing. I promise not to bore you. If you would like to support my efforts, that would be amazing and so appreciated. Either way, I am super happy you are here.
After taking a year off to redo the modules of Project 52, I realized just how special this training is.
It’s real. It’s authentic. It creates mastery.
And no other training out there does it the way I do.
In person.
Live.
This is an opportunity to learn the business and art of commercial photography, build a strong portfolio, and create a marketing system that works.
Really works.
A few observations.
I had lunch with a couple of photographers who are not new to the business but are having a tough time of it right now.
As we chatted, I began to see the problem.
A glaring, huge problem they were unable to see.
Both were in their early 50s and have been thriving in the past few decades.
Now… not so much.
Of course, there were plenty of things to blame… the economy, the president, the wacky business climate. And more.
But no blame on them.
And that is where it lies.
If you keep doing things like you did ten years ago, the future will not be very bright. In fact, it may actually end up fairly bleak.
Because things have changed.
A lot.
The ways that worked last decade don’t work now.
The things that worked before COVFCK don’t work now.
Old thinking is deadly thinking.
“I’ll never use AI” is reminiscent of “I’ll never use digital”.
“I don’t want to do social media” sounds reminiscent of “I’ll never get a computer”.
“Nothing works” sounds much like, “Gee, this is harder than it used to be.”
Yes. Yes, it is.
There are far more moving parts, far more competitors, and vastly different ways to do business than there were in 2014.
A decade is like a century these days.
The truth is that there are ways to become more valuable instead of less.
This is the challenge for a lot of creatives - there are too many ways, and trying to nail them down is a constant frustration.
Should we Instagram?
Should we Facebook?
Should we Slack?
Which platform is best?
Is YouTube important?
What about other platforms?
Depends.
On you.
On your market, your work, your portfolio, your marketing, and your appetite for work.
And you have to have an appetite for it, for sure.
Project 52 is a holistic way to push your work toward a more marketable place and help you stabilize the roller-coaster ride of feast or famine.
Project 52 Pro System, is just that - a system for professional photographers to build their businesses to whatever level they wish. From full-time to part-time to side hustle.
This year, we have 52 weekly assignments, three deep dives (food, product, people), and a full marketing class to help you find clients NOW. Most students have covered their tuition in about 4 months. Some sooner.
I just added some video reviews on the home page, Project 52 Pro System, so if you want to hear from some students, head on over and give it a listen.
We are in early enrollment now with some grand perks. Take a look at the site for exactly what they are.
If you have any questions about Project 52 Pro System, let me know. I am happy to discuss them with you.
That’s it for today’s note. Yes, it was a salesy one, but you all know I try to keep that to a minimum.
Making stories with photographs can transcend simple photography. From individual images to a series, the ability to tell a story - long or short - is one of the great abilities of the photographic arts.
This class is one of my favorites, and it will not be taught as a LIVE course again.
If you want to see more about this class, go here.
All enrollees get a $100 discount on Project 52 Pro if they decide they want to join the most unique and powerful class in commercial photography in the known universe.*
