Portraits: Briana, June 25, Pine Valley, California, Legacy Assignment 20, and a Reminder.
Sometimes you just gotta get out and have fun with friends and cameras... ya know.
8 Different cameras, 8 different images, and a hell of a lot of fun… That was the plan…
The idea was simple. Take eight cameras, make eight photos, in eight hours.
What could go wrong?
Well… actually…
The light sucked, no clouds, lots of wind, no time to scout, lots of time spent looking for sets, and did I mention the light was really harsh?
Oh well… great plans, but some things went awry. And we still got shots I liked, so that makes it work fine for me.
Bri at the old store:
Cameras used: Nikon Df, 50 MM, Hasselblad, 50 MM.
A silly little video I made of the adventure. NOTE: There is audio.
I really liked this old storefront, and it had great natural light coming in to fill the shadow under a huge tree.
We headed down the road to find this little space with a giant propane tank. I don’t know why I like things like this in the landscape, but I thought it was kind of fun.
Cameras used: Nikon D750, 50 MM, Canon G10.
Camera: Nikon D750, 24–120 MM.
We had lunch in a nice little cafe in Campo and ended up shooting across the street on a long, white fence line. I love fence lines.
I put this together for fun.
Lake Morena was filled to the top of the dam. First time in 18 years, I was told. We found a little cove, and I wanted that red dress against the blue sky and water.
Camera: Nikon F5, 28 MM, Nikon D750, 28 MM.
Bri had the idea of having just her face lit and the background dark and moody. I found a rock and some bushes to frame her, and away we went.
Canon 6D, 35 MM.
We hiked down a hill to a little creek, but in the end, I loved the path for leading lines. Bri in a black dress and cowboy boots.
Camera: iPhone 13. (Processed in NIK Analog Effects)
Finally, we made it back to Pine Valley for a last shoot. I loved the light coming through the trees and Bri with her cowgirl hat.
Camera: Nikon Df, 50 MM, Lumix DC Z80 Point and Shoot.
We wrapped it up at the ice cream store, and it was a great end to the shoot.
Camera used: Canon SX-130 Point and Shoot.
All in all, I had a great time, made some images I like, got to drive through the Anza Borrego Desert, and spent a few hours with one of my favorite people.
I count that as a win.
ONE LAST REMINDER:

For only $230, you will build a total portfolio for your site. Need a food tab, you’ll have it. Want to add some product or splash work to your offering? This’ll be just the thing. And you can use the method you learn to do it again and again for new portfolios.
Last chance for this year. More information here.
