Some of My Baby Photos, and Day 10 of the 15 Day Photo Business Tune Up
A fun little post for Memorial Day, a few photographs to make you smile.
Hi, and welcome to my little Substack corner. I write about photography, art, design, and the craft of living creatively. I am glad you are here. Consider subscribing to keep up with what I am doing. I promise not to bore you. If you would like to support my efforts, that would be amazing and so appreciated. Either way, I am super happy you are here.
My baby is a 2008 Kawasaki Nomad bagger who has adventures with me for nearly 8 years now.
We have been to the Canadian Rockies together, rode the hot deserts of Arizona and Utah, wound up the side of ice-covered mountains in Glacier, and sat still on the top of the world on the Beartooth Highway.
She has performed flawlessly, although she does go through shoes pretty quickly. Motorcycle tires ain’t cheap.
Above is a photo I took one May afternoon on Highway 24 west of Hanksville. This area is astounding. Capitol Reef is one of my favorite national parks. You should see it in the winter or fall. You can fry on the rocks in summer.
This photo was taken on one of my first rides. I just needed to get out and on some asphalt so we headed down to Gila Bend for a soda before heading back home. Yeah, I like to do that sometimes.
I love riding highway 77 from Oracle to Globe. Lots of sweeping curves and incredible wilderness. This little town of Mammoth has seen better days.
This shot was taken in Mammoth and is the kind of stuff I find so interesting when I am out on the bike, riding through old towns on two lanes of pavement. My favorite past time.
Just north of the Mexican Water, AZ, these two buttes always catch my camera’s attention. The skies this beautiful morning were spectacular.
I met a couple of guys fro m Norway crusing the southwest on the BMWs and we spent a few minutes discussing the absolute beauty of Yellowstone, and Wyoming in general. I took their photos, they took mine.
Beartooth is my favorite ride. Winding roads, steep cliffs, and views that are simply indescribable. in the shot above, we are on the top of the Rocky Mountains. Literally on the top. The views cannot be explained with mere words. If you haven’t been there, you simply must go. At least once.
On the Utah/Wyoming border, a tiny church sits abandoned on the prairie. I have photographed it on two occasions. Both times the silence of that area was deafening. Highway 90 is a rarely traveled road. No cars passed me while I was there, and I was there for over 45 minutes.
Kids always need ice cream on the road, and my baby is no exception. It was hot, and I stopped at this little ice cream parlor at her insistence. No really, the double-decker vanilla was all her fault.
OK, I admit to falling in love with this magnificent lake in the middle of Yellowstone National Park. It is simply spectacular, and on this particular day it was windy and cold. Very cold - August 9. Cold in August is not an Arizona boy’s experience very often.
it was brutally hot as I left Cameron going north on 89 toward the Vermillion Cliffs. I could see the clouds forming up ahead as I began hoping I could get to some shelter before the storm hit. It looked to be a doozy, and rain gear is stifling hot in the desert heat.
I stopped near the Marble Canyon bridge to get a shot of the clouds closing in from the north. I was able to get to Cliff Dwellers on Highway 89 before it hit. I waited for it to pass while having a nice cold tea and a piece of blueberry pie.
Again, the tea was my idea. My baby insisted on the pie.
Insisted I say… I can say no more.
Happy Memorial Day to you all.
And thanks to those who served and paid so heavy a price. You were all amazing.
