Don, have you considered, in the stats you mentioned, that the audiences may not be the same between Substack and Medium? Is it possible that if you identify and know your ideal customer viewer (ICV) and customer profiles, that you may be talking to communities with different proportions of your ICV? Thoughts?

Hi David.

Yes, I analyzed the same engagement numbers for Medium as well.

There is a crossover, but Medium is even lower in engagement on what I refer to as "hard business" - marketing, bidding, the stuff of professionals.

I don't want to walk away from Medium. I have twice as many followers there than on Substack. I do not participate in the revenue sharing there, all my articles are free. Because of that, my work falls lower on the algorithm than the paid stuff does... and that is as it should be.

I have people on Substack who are helping me keep publishing through support, and so my first allegiance is to those who put their dollars behind me.

I will be sharing the results of my experiment in three or four months to see how it is playing out.

If you follow me on Medium, you will see articles that may be similar to the Substack work, but changed a little for that demographic.

It's all a grand experiement... so, like "tuesday" in the digital world.

Thanks for the great comment. I appreciate it.

And I would welcome any insight you may have.
